Projects – En

Below you will find a selection of some of our most recent projects. These projects demonstrate our expertise, dedication, and the quality of our work in the field of underwater inspection and maintenance.

We offer reliable and cost-effective inspection and maintenance contracts that provide quick response times, expertise and flexibility, so our customers can rest assured that they will achieve maximum operational efficiency.

Caribbean Underwater Works (COW) draws up a work plan for the proposed activities. If necessary, a permit can be applied for based on this work plan, and the necessary approval can be obtained from Stinapa to carry out the work.

We design and build safe, accessible, and sustainable access to the sea.

From problem to solution: smart structures that combine safety, inclusivity, and nature conservation.

Accessible and Sustainable Water Access Points

The project calls for the construction of safe and accessible water access points for fishermen, divers, and people with disabilities. This initiative aligns with the vision of good governance as articulated by Lieutenant Governor Soliano: inclusive, unifying, and in collaboration with the community.

The proposal is more than a practical measure; it is an investment in social cohesion, equal opportunities, and trust between the government and citizens. In this way, we are building a Bonaire where everyone can fully participate in public life and make use of our natural resources.

Problem: Lack of suitable access to the sea

The lack of safe and suitable access points to the sea on Bonaire poses risks and creates limitations for various user groups.

  • Difficult and unsafe access to the water from the reef or uncontrolled locations
  • Risk of damage to boats and equipment
  • Vulnerable coral reefs are damaged by uncontrolled access
  • Limited accessibility for people with mobility impairments
The fishing sector on Bonaire is an essential part of the local economy

The fishing sector on Bonaire is of great importance to the local economy due to its contribution to employment, food security, and self-sufficiency.

According to research by the Amsterdam Economic Bureau, the sector offers significant potential for economic growth and a reduction in import dependency.

By investing in sustainable fisheries, Bonaire can not only reap economic benefits but also reduce its vulnerability to external shocks.

Furthermore, fisheries are part of the broader Blue Economy strategy, which focuses on the responsible use of marine resources. In this way, the sector contributes to a resilient and sustainable future for the island.

The lack of properly functioning boat ramps leads to dangerous situations

The lack of properly functioning boat ramps on Bonaire leads to dangerous situations and hinders the daily work of fishermen.

Due to the lack of safe and accessible ramps, it is often nearly impossible for boat owners to launch or haul out their vessels safely.

The situation has led to protests by fishermen and other users, who are calling for sustainable solutions. According to the Piskabon advocacy group, the current situation hinders not only fishermen but also emergency services and recreational users, underscoring the urgency of the problem.

Solution: Sustainable and Modular Structures

Our solutions are designed to provide safe, efficient, and sustainable access to the sea, with minimal impact on the natural environment.

  • Safe and stable access for all users
  • Modular systems for quick and flexible installation
  • Use of sustainable and corrosion-resistant materials
  • Minimal impact on nature and the environment during installation
The construction of trailer/launching ramps will significantly improve safety

The rendering shows how it can be done:

A safe, well-constructed launching ramp with a solid foundation, sufficient space, and a sturdy dock.

Fishermen can launch their boats here without risk. The area is clean, well-organized, and designed for daily use. This strengthens Bonaire’s maritime infrastructure and supports both commercial and recreational boating. In this way, fishing once again becomes a safe and sustainable activity.

Modular construction, speed, and low costs

Modular construction allows boat ramps on Bonaire to be built efficiently and with minimal impact on the marine park.

The ramps are prefabricated in five-meter segments and installed from the water. Each section is equipped with adjustable foot supports that are firmly anchored to the cliff. This approach significantly reduces the cost per ramp. At the same time, disruption to nature and users during construction is kept to a minimum.

Application: Accessible ocean entry points

A concrete example of this approach is the accessible ramp at Isidel Beach Park, designed for safe and inclusive use.

  • Accessible to people with limited mobility and divers
  • Controlled access prevents damage to the reef
  • Contributes to nature conservation and sustainable use
  • In permanent use since December 2024
Bonaire is known worldwide as a top destination for shore diving

Although Bonaire is celebrated worldwide as a top destination for shore diving, access to the sea in many places is not safe or accessible for people with disabilities, the elderly, children, and people with limited mobility.

This not only hinders the inclusivity of dive tourism but also leads to uncontrolled entry points. People enter the water at random locations, causing damage to the fragile ecosystem of the Bonaire National Marine Park.

Without clear, safe access points, corals and other marine habitats are unintentionally trampled or damaged.

Accessible and well-maintained entry points are therefore essential for both nature conservation and a welcoming, safe diving experience for everyone.

Access ramps for people with disabilities & access for divers

The accessible ramp at Isidel Beach Park is an example of how smart infrastructure contributes to both inclusivity and nature conservation on Bonaire.

This ramp, permanently available since December 2024, allows people with physical disabilities to safely and independently access the sea. What’s unique is that the ramp is not only used by people with disabilities but also frequently by divers who want to enter the water in a safe and controlled manner.

This prevents people from entering the fragile reef in undesirable locations, which helps limit damage to the Bonaire National Marine Park.

The ramp at Isidel demonstrates how accessibility and nature conservation can go hand in hand.
